What an extraordinary week in British politics! Having been gripped by last Thursday’s election, the subsequent discussions and events, I felt compelled to analyse the non-verbal communication demonstrated by David Cameron and Nick Clegg, during their first joint press conference held in the gardens of Downing Street.

Cameron appeared to be truly energised by the prospect of a coalition Government – using his right hand to emphasise and mark-out key points. This is often a sign of dominance and conveyed a clear message, “I am in charge”. His voice tone and pace was much more animated than in previous televised election debates, signalling passion and conviction in what he was saying. During Cameron references to Clegg his open hand gestures with splayed fingers suggested true openness to this coalition and highlights he has nothing to hide.

Nick Clegg matches David Cameron’s approach when he starts talking. He also uses lots of gestures with his right hand to convey his dominance and authority although he then utilises a slightly better balance between his left and right hand gestures that will appeal equally to male and female voters. In comparison to Cameron, Clegg uses more ‘palms facing upward’ gestures – a placating style that suggests “please like me, please accept me”. Interestingly, as Clegg’s confidence builds, the upward palming reduces.

A powerful sign of confidence can be demonstrated by hand steepling – this involves touching fingertips of both hands creating the effect of a church steeple. Clegg uses this to  turbo-charges his level of confidence at certain moments.

Looking intently at each other whilst talking not only helps create a supportive charge but also focuses the attention of viewers and journalists on the person speaking – this in turn establishes respect.

Key points are made with a lightly clenched fist, signifying Cameron’s  determination to ‘drive this one through’. Whenever the words “strong and stable government” are used both men appear to ‘light up like a Christmas tree’  - I suspect this phrase was the ‘unifier’ that helped both men garner an agreement between them.

Notice how Nick Clegg appears to stand straighter  every time David Cameron mentions the new cabinet with five Liberal Democrats thus showing his pride in what he has achieved.

The genuine closeness between them augurs well for this coalition – after-all resistance can often be a sign of lack of rapport. On departing from the conference they walk back they are both perfectly synchronised.  Their body language tells me that this unified approach has the full support and commitment of both men. Good luck to both David Cameron and Nick Clegg in what will be a tough few years as they deal with our economic situation.

The other big story gripping our nation is my Big Apple Experiment!! Heart Radio, Devon have found out about my theory that you can create a visible change in an apple based on your thoughts and emotions. Looking forward to explaining these theories tomorrow – if you live in Devon, tune into Heart RadioHeart Oxfordshire are already running this experiment and inviting their listeners to take part.

Have a great week and embrace these exciting times!

I was going to write about my strange radio interview experience this week but I received an email (see below) which explains it all so much better than I would – so please read on!

Joanne Malin who presents the mid-morning magazine show ‘Mornings with Joanne Malin on BBC WM’ says:

”I must admit, talking to two halves of an apple for a week was the craziest thing I’ve ever been asked to do during my 17 year career as a journalist. I said horrible things to one half and lovely things to the other for 7 days and was expecting to reveal, live on air, that the experiment was a complete waste of time. But to my amazement when my Producer Gary Butcher, opened the jars and revealed the apples during my interview with Nikki, it was clear that the hated half of the apple had in fact rotted a lot more than the side I’d been lovely too!

So maybe this proves that us women really can talk ourselves beautiful. Now I’m trying to say positive things to myself in the bathroom mirror every morning and if it helps save money on all the lotions and potions us girls use, it’s worth a try.”

See what I mean? Have a great week!

The final episode of Kitchen Sink to Catwalk saw the winner, Sam Hughes, secure herself a modelling contract with the agency Models One. Several weeks earlier I had spent half a day with the contestants at the Globe to help build their confidence. Taking part in a competition like this was always likely to throw up feelings of self doubt, so you can imagine my joy to watch these ladies sweep such emotions aside to ooze confidence and charisma on the catwalk . Well done ladies! It has been a  privilege working with you – may this be the first step in your next exciting adventure!!

This week heralds the start of my Audience with Charisma Tour starting at Shakespeare’s globe Theatre – the delegate list encompasses a wide variety of individuals from very different job roles and backgrounds – can’t wait – bring it on!

We’ve received an apple photo from Daisy who will be 12 next week – she is our youngest apple experimenter. She is so excited by her results that she is trying to persuade her school to take part. I’m planning to interview Daisy for our next ebulletin to find out what a young mind got from doing this study on positive thinking and apples. Daisy’s apple photo is up on my facebook page and shows a distinct difference between the LOVE and HATE halves.

The Big Apple Experiment is generating all sorts of interest from both individuals and the media. What started out as a simple hypothesis to test some of the work by Dr Masaru Emoto has truly polarised opinion.  Several experimenters have reported how wonderful they feel when they announce positive messages and by contrast how difficult they find it to be hateful – and this is just with an apple!  One lady told me that after the first day she could not continue with the experiment as she really did not like having to say ‘negative things out loud’ – it didn’t make her feel good about herself.

 Have a great week!

This week started with a great feature in Monday’s Daily Mail about my ‘Big Apple Experiment’. For the experiment we are asking the general public to help us test the hypothesis that our thoughts and feelings have an immediate and visible effect on our physical appearance and our sense of wellbeing – and that this can even extend to an inanimate object such as an apple! Despite the fact that this controversial subject has polarised opinion, over 70% of the results from ‘apple experimenters’ have shown a visible difference between the LOVE and HATE apples. Please keep submitting your entries on my Facebook, all those who do could win an IPOD Nano  or a free place at one of my Audience with Charisma seminars in our free prize draw at the end of April.

The final episode of ‘Kitchen Sink to Catwalk’ is showing next Tuesday, during this programme the viewer will discover which of the six housewives will land the Models One modelling contract. It has been a privilege to work with the contestants during the series and to see how much their confidence and self-assurance has grown during this process.

On the subject of confidence, last Saturday I attended a charity version of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ to support my brother and his wife – had there been a prize for the most charismatic couple they would definitely have won it! Perhaps I am not being completely objective!

 Have a great week!

We have a very exciting list of delegates for my next seminar at The Globe on 25th March – from accountants to models to board directors to psychic mediums. We never include the delegates title or organisation on their name badge  so you never know if you are talking to the chairman of BT or Derek Accora!!

The Big Apple Experiment is generating more interest than I imagined – we received a load more submissions over the weekend. The results are astonishing! Can someones thoughts impact on physical reality? Why not view the evidence for yourself by logging onto my Facebook page.

Don’t forget to catch Kitchen Sink To Catwalk on the Bio Channel tomorrow night where you can see me build the confidence of six middle-aged ladies who are competing for a modelling contract.

How would you like to take part in a really fun yet exciting experiment?  It’s so easy to do, yet at the same time potentially very powerful? Intrigued? Then read on!

Let me briefly explain the background. Experiments by Dr Masaru Emoto, although controversial, suggest that the water molecules in water crystals could be directly affected by our thoughts, words and feelings,  thus determining the shape of the crystal. Powerful stuff, especially when you consider that approximately 60% of our bodies are water!

So how can you help! Well, my apple experiment comprises of one apple cut in half where one half is placed in a jar labeled LOVE and the other half is placed in a jar labeled HATE. Every time I walk past the apples I’ll send them loving or hateful thoughts based on the labeled jar, then after 6 days I photograph both apple halves. The results have been astonishing! Try it for yourself and let me know how your experiments go! Click here to email me with your results – if you feel like attaching a photo of your experiment then that would be fantastic!

6 Days Hate/Love experiment

Difference between 2 halves after 6 days of hate and love

I will collate the results and let you know!

And that’s not all; how would you like to win the latest 8GB iPod Nano  for taking part? Simply send back your results by 30th April 2010 and you will be automatically  entered into The Big Apple Experiment prize draw.

Have a great week!
